Yesterday was the SFCM Vocal Department meeting! My last year as an undergrad! I used this opportunity to dress up, as I knew I was going to be with the entire department and new students. I wore a vintage top and skirt (this hounds-tooth pencil skirt I got in Arizona for $2) and my (new and favorite) Doc Marten heels! Don't worry, my bomber jacket is FAUX leather, but looks just as chic!
I think this is a good look for a young opera singer. It is dressed up and modest, but still with a bit of sex appeal and edge. This is definitely a statement look, but I think it gets my personality across well! Plus when I walked into rehearsal at Opera San Jose last night, all eyes turned to me and I got lots of compliments! Life is too difficult and short to feel unattractive in your clothes! Dress like the person you want to be!

Ok... I couldn't resist-- I had to write a new post! I am drooling over CĂ©line's Fall 2011 Lookbook! I love the menswear influence and nods to my fashion idol, Jackie O! These are a few of my favorites!

I am also in love with Topshop! Affordable, ready to wear clothing has never been this gorgeous! I am really into high necklines these days. It creates the perfect amount of sex appeal, but leaves a lot to the imagination! I wish I could fill my closet with all these looks, but I will settle with idolizing them in the mean time!

It has been a busy few days of rehearsals and shopping! I've never been much of a J. Crew shopper; however, today I bought a pair of their ankle length toothpick cords. They are super comfortable and ankle length pants are very in right now. It's such a nod to 1960's mod style-- quite possibly my favorite era of clothing! Here are the pants:
I also fell in love with Gucci's new Fall 2011 line! Although I can't say I endorse the use of real fur, I must admit that these looks are gorgeous! Once again, perhaps because of the show Mad Men, 1960's fashion is very chic right now-- no complaint! Here are two of my favorite looks-- I am a total sucker for outerwear:

Speaking of Mad Men, I am loving Banana Republic's Mad Men line! My wonderful Rob got a 50% off coupon from his trio-mate Matt that is redeemable tomorrow through Wednesday! These are my top picks for myself right now. I will start posting more of my own looks when I get a camera phone that actually goes online!

I am officially done with my SFCM Opera audition for Fall! I sang "Joy Beyond Measure" from Adamo's Little Women and "Du gai soleil" from Massenet's Werther. The audition went really well and I can't wait to begin the school year!

After my long day, I went searching the interweb for designers' updated look books! I am in love with Minkpink's Spring 2011 collection. It has such a laid back, effortless, but downtown look to it. It's perfect for the San Francisco weather!

Check out the awesome platform sandal pumps she's wearing! The tube socks add such a cool and unique touch! Also, lace is a must right now! I love lace tops-- but make sure you wear that with a camisole, a bra will not suffice! Although, a fun bandeau top would pass in my book.

Now let's talk accessories! French designer Olympia Le-Tan's "You can't judge a book by it's cover" is such a great model for recycling! Her bags and clutches are made from bound classic literature! Check these out:

And the winner is...

So I went to Marc Jacobs today and used the gift certificate from my lovely Rob and bought.... This!

So cute and form fitting, with a low, square back. It is from his Fall 2011 collection and is extremely comfortable! It may not be ideal for auditions, but can easily be dressed down for day, and sexed up by night! The cap sleeves add enough modesty, but the cut of the dress adds some sex appeal!

Best way to spend a Tuesday afternoon, after a wonderful voice lesson, is to enjoy a honey ginseng tea and buy a cute little designer dress! I will post pics of me in it asap, but I couldn't leave ya'll hanging!

Audition Wear!

My last SFCM orientation as an undergrad starts this week and that means AUDITIONS! My audition dresses are the most important things in my closet and I love updating it! My belief for any audition outfit is that the dress must be short sleeved (capped sleeves are ok, but can easily make your arms look distractingly long) and the hem line must fall below the knee. Jewel tones are ideal and patterns should be avoided! Also, low, closed toe heels are crucial! I always get nervous watching a woman sing in sky-high stilettos, teetering as she hits her high C (assuming she doesn't fall over on the way). Also, I know this is a huge debate right now, but as a pale girl, who easily bruises, I think nude stockings should always be worn! It creates a sleek, uniform look to your skin and hides all those nasty bruises you get from crawling across the floor during rehearsals (as stated by my boyfriend, Rob, "I don't think I've ever seen you in an opera where you don't have to crawl).
So I finally have had two days off from Idomeneo rehearsal at Opera San Jose! So far the show is great! The set alone is spectacular! And don't get me started on the costumes! Every costume is custom made-- for my first fitting I was sized in the muslin!

So with this much appreciated time off and with Fall right around the corner, I have been following up on the large fashion house's lines. I am loving Dior's Fall 2011 line! The coats in the Ready-to-wear line are amazingly tailored and I love the homage to the 80's on the Haute Couture runway!

I will try not to drool over these looks too much longer. I need to turn my attention to Marc Jacobs anyways! My amazingly talented, romantic, and kind boyfriend got me a gift certificate to any Marc Jacobs store for my birthday this year! I can't wait to spend it! I will post my favorites of this season soon! In the meantime, suggestions are appreciated!

I am currently obsessed with vintage style, burlesque inspired dresses, lining the racks of San Francisco. If only I could find these actual vintage dresses, equipped with the comforting scents!
I am loving the brand Stop Staring! 1950s cocktail dresses are flattering on any body shape and the A-line cut is perfect for auditions and nights out alike!

I wore my new favorite outfit today. Rock Steady high waisted sailor inspired shorts with opaque white stockings and bought officially the coolest heels ever with the love of my life, Rob: Mary Jane/ saddle style Dr. Marten heels!

Benvenuti!

I am soubrette Soprano training to become a professional opera singer at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, with a love for fashion! Mixing my two loves, I created this blog to post pictures and links that inspire me to be the singing fashionista!
